We camped at O'Bannon Woods for Labor Day weekend. The Lewis family, McAfee family, and Powers/Lucas gang camped too. It was such a fun and relaxing weekend! We are already excited about our next camping trip! Saturday morning Janelle and I took the kids for a walk and found this beautiful butterfly on the road.
I'm not sure if these two are best buds or brother-sister-like. They love each other, but they love to argue too. Haha!
Each family fixed a meal for the weekend. It made planning food, prep, and clean up SO EASY! The McAfee's fixed pancakes, fruit, and sausage for Saturday breakfast. Yummy!
We all know how much Gabriel loves pancakes!
After breakfast the kids colored with sidewalk chalk.
Such a cute picture of Janelle and Jackson!
Gabriel really enjoys playing by himself. He played with these trains for the longest time.
Next, everyone got out their bicycles. We had a small, yet dangerous, bicycle brigade going.
Daniel loaded Grace and Jake into the trailer and took them for a ride. It was Grace's first time to ride in a bicycle trailer; she couldn't stop grinning.
Alicia and I took a few of the kids to the playground. She braided Darbi's hair while we were there. It looked so cute when she was finished!
Grace insisted that Alicia go down the slide with her.
The Lucas/Powers gang arrived with face paints. Grace wanted a pink butterfly . . . she's such a girl!
The guys settled in to watch a little football. Yes, this IS the life!
While Dan fixed dinner, Meredith, Alicia, and I took some of the kiddos for a walk to the horse camping area. Grace wanted to ride in Sam P.'s stroller.
The horses are so beautiful. It was so cool walking through the campground seeing all of the horses.
Jake and Grace were not so sure about petting the horses. Grace would not let me take her out of the stroller when we got close to the horses.
Have I ever said that Grace LOVES Alicia?
The adults played a little Skip-Bo.
When it got dark, we made s'mores. Gabriel had a giant marshmallow and Reese's cup s'more. Oh my!
Sunday morning we took the kiddos for a little walk down Rocky Ridge Trail.
We were not out of sight from the trail sign before they started throwing rocks down the ridge. We had to explain that we couldn't stand there and throw rocks all day, and there would be rocks all along the trail . . . Hence the name Rocky Ridge Trail.
Jackson and Sam . . . best buds!
Somehow Spiderman ended up in the tree. Dan and Sam P. figured out how to get him down.
The men played a little cornhole.
Darbi, Grace, and Gabriel worked a puzzle.
After Sunday dinner, we went for another walk to the horse camping area. Grace asked all day Sunday if we could go. Notice the beer can between the girls . . . yeah, it's not theirs. Haha!
We had an opportunity to pet another horse.
This lady told us a little bit about horses. The kids were really interested and paid close attention. Her horses were beautiful.
After our walk, the big boys stripped down for outdoor showers. It was so much easier than taking the kids to the shower house. Once the big boys were naked, Grace and Jake thought they HAD to join in! It was so funny seeing five naked kids running around. Hopefully we didn't offend any other campers.
Alicia and Darbi
We sat around the campfire and enjoyed a fall-like evening.
Jake had a little snack attack. He sat on top of the picnic table and noshed. Such a funny kid!
Thanks to our wonderful friends for a fabulous camping weekend. We are truly blessed with wonderful friends and family. These are memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
