Friday morning we went to Grace's last class at the zoo. The theme for the day was the letter L. We arrived to the zoo early, so we decided to see a few animals before going to class.
One of the zoo photographers took our picture as we entered the zoo. My little fashionista decided to wear her rain boots to the zoo, and little did I know, she didn't wear socks. She had a blister by lunch time.
This globe fountain is always a favorite of the kids' when we enter the zoo. They love standing there touching the globe and splashing in the water.
The first animal we saw was the giant tortoise. There were 4 of them in the exhibit, and two of them were feeling rather amorous. The kids thought they were playing, and I didn't tell them any different.
This orangutan was a riot! The tall boy in the green shirt stood in front of the glass to have his picture taken with him. The orangutan knocked on the glass to get the boy's attention. I think these animals enjoy the visitors as much as the visitors enjoy them.
Gabriel asked me to take their picture next to the chameleon. He's such a cute boy, and I was glad to have him with us for our final Friday zoo outing.
Grace looks so big in this picture. You could definitely tell she was one of the older three-year-old's in the class. She would sit and follow directions well, where some of the kids couldn't sit for more than a second. She makes her mama so proud!
Miss Amanda let all of the kids touch Cortez, the lizard.
As part of their study of the letter L, the kids got to smell a lemon. Well, the first child smelled the lemon and passed it to the next kiddo. The next kiddo licked the lemon, so Miss Amanda gave the third child a new piece to smell with strict instructions to all of the kids to smell the lemon. The third child promptly licked the lemon. Miss Amanda gave Grace, the fourth child, a new piece (and the final piece) of lemon to smell. Grace immediately LICKED the lemon, as you see here. The last three kids in the class got no lemon to smell . . . or lick for that matter.
Their final activity before going on the zoo walk to make an L with licorice vines. Grace immediately started eating her licorice before making a letter L. I made the L for her; she screamed at me; I laughed at her; she screamed again and took the licorice off of the plate; I took the licorice away and made another L with it just to irritate her. Ha!
For the kids' last zoo walk, they were going on a lion hunt. Miss Amanda provided the kids with safari hats and safari glasses. Grace thought that was such a cool idea, and she wore her safari wear well.
Once we started our zoo walk, Grace was quick to grab Miss Amanda's hand.
We came to a misting station near the bongos. Grace threw her hat and glasses at me and RAN for the water. I love her expression in this picture.
My kids were the first to get in the water and the last to get out.

These classes look like so much fun, Denise! Kade loves the water globe, too! And I have seen those "active" turtles a time or two myself! ;)
You crack me up w/ that licorice business! Glad you all had a good time!
