Dan found a cicada tonight that was in the process of coming out of its shell. We watched the cicada come out of its shell for an hour.
We started watching it when there was barely a crack down the back of the shell.
It was hard for Grace to keep her attention on the cicada, so she took many breaks to swing and act silly. I know that's hard to believe.
It pulled itself backwards out of the shell and hung out for a bit to dry and rest before pulling its wings out.
It started to spread its wings.
Then it started to stretch its legs.
Next he pulled his tail out of the shell.
Dan was the most fascinated by this little guy.
As he dried, he spread his wings out completely and started to move his legs.
When we came in the house for baths an hour later, it was still hanging on the fence. We are looking forward to retrieve the empty shell tomorrow morning.

That is so cool! You are such a teacher! :)
Very cool, but also kinda gross when he's all wet coming outta the shell. I would never have enough patience to sit & watch. :)
Cool pictures but kind of icky too! I feel educated on these little guys now thanks to your pics. :) hee hee!
