Broken??
As our company was arriving this evening, Gabriel was playing with a toy school bus, pushing it along the floor. He was moving pretty quickly with it and went across the threshold from the living room to the entry way. The bus stopped at the threshold, but the momentum of Gabriel's body didn't. He kept his firm grip on the school bus and kinda rolled over top of the bus and landed on his hands. He squealed and cried which is not unusual for any kind of incident with him. He can be pretty dramatic. He kept holding his hand after it happened and wouldn't let anyone get a good look at it. He stayed in a bit of a sour mood, but he didn't complain about his hand. I did look at it, finally, after dinner, and it didn't look bad. He was using it normally. After he'd been in bed about two and half hours, he woke up crying and saying, " My hand hurts so bad I can't even believe it." When Dan and I inspected it, it has a purple spot on one side and is somewhat swollen. Dan poked around on it, and it seems to hurt worst on the side and under his pinky finger. One of us will take him in the morning to get an x-ray. I'm guessing that if it is broken, there is not much that can be done about it. At least the doctor can recommend how to manage the pain for a kiddo his age. Dan wrapped it to help him keep it straight, but Gabriel wouldn't keep it wrapped. The worst thing right now is that he balls his hands into fists and puts them under his chin to sleep, and it's really causing him a lot of pain. He has been awake for over an hour now. He can't seem to get comfortable enough to get back to sleep.
