Trick or Treating at the Zoo

Friday night Grandma and I took the kids to the zoo for trick or treating.  We hadn't given a lot of thought to Halloween costumes yet, so we got out last year's costumes, and they worked just fine.  Gabriel was Heat Blast from Ben 10, and Grace was Bat Girl.
The first theme on the trick-or-treating route was princess fairy tale characters.  Grace was so excited to have her picture taken with princesses.
 Belle was looking beautiful.
The trick-or-treat route was packed.  There was such a wait to get to the first booth for treats.
When Grace saw Jessie from Toy Story, she was so excited!  She said, "Momma!  I should have brought my Jessie doll with me!"  It's been a while since the Jessie doll has been played with, but she has made several appearances this week.
 Another trick or treat booth
Another themed area was video games.  There was music from the Mario Bros. game playing as we walked through.  I told Gabriel to pose like Pac-Man was eating him.  This was his pose.  Ha!
Another part of the route was soda shop and Candyland themed.  Grace's favorite food is pepperoni pizza, so she could wait to pose for a pic with this giant slice of pizza.
Toward the end of the trick-or-treating route there was an ocean theme with Nemo, a yellow submarine, and a Mermaid.  Grace was thrilled to have her picture taken with "Ariel."  I asked Gabriel if he wanted to stand next to the prince.  He said, "Big boys don't care about that stuff, Mom."
The next theme was pirates.  This pirate was Captain Jack Sparrow.  Gabriel walked up to him and had the funniest conversation.
Gabriel:  You really do look like the real Captain Jack Sparrow.
Capt. Jack:  How do you know that I'm NOT the real Captain Jack Sparrow?
Gabriel:  I know that you're not.
Capt. Jack:  Oh . . . okay.  But I try.
Gabriel:  Hmmm . . . .  (seeming somewhat impressed.)
Gabriel was finally a little more impressed when we got to the superheros.  We wanted to wait to have his picture taken with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.  He said he was disappointed to not see the Hulk or Ironman.  Ha!
It was cute to see him pose for this one.
The last theme was story book characters like The 3 Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Men, and Shrek.  I only included this picture because of "Little Miss Thing's" pose.  Crack me up!
On our way out of the zoo, there was a display of carved artificial pumpkins.  They were so cool!  Gabriel wanted me to take his picture with the Angry Birds pumpkins.  They had Elvis, Spiderman, Edgar Allan Poe, Marilyn Monroe, Hello Kitty, and Mario from Mario Bros.  These pumpkins were so detailed and intricate.  We got to speak to the artists who created the carvings.  She was very friendly and wanted to talk about her artwork.
