Surgery Day

Yesterday was THE BIG DAY for the kiddos. They were both having their surgeries done.
Despite books, the Leapster, and stuffed animals, Daddy's iPad kept Grace the most occupied while she waited for her surgery. She had her adenoids removed and new ear tubes put in. She came through surgery like a little champ. She was ready to go home by ten-thirty yesterday morning. Before going back for her surgery, the kids each got a dose of "goofy juice." It made Grace so silly. Her eyes looked drunk --- it reminded me of a cartoon where the character's eyes spin. She was woozie and silly as she played her game on the iPad. We were cracking up at her!
Gabriel's surgery required a little more. He had his tonsils and adenoids removed, and he had his nasal passages scraped out to enlarge his airway. When he awoke from surgery, he was angry. He cried uncontrollably, and he was so restless in the recovery room. He was vomiting and in so much pain. It just broke our hearts to see him like that. Finally, the nurse gave him more pain medicine and something for his nauseousness. Dan was able to talk to him and convince him to stay calm.
Back in his room, Gabriel got bored with sitting in bed watching t.v. He took my Kindle and played Angry Birds on the couch. I had taken books and his Leapster, but I don't think he was with-it enough from the anesthesia to do any of those things. He did play 5 games of Tic-Tac-Toe with Uncle Brian, and beat him 3 to 5.
So far, the only good part having his tonsils out is getting to have ice cream any time he wants it. Last night about 8 o'clock he wanted a chocolate milkshake. What did Momma do? Go to McD's and get him one! He seemed to appreciate that. He drank more than half of it and kept it down.

I don't know if this will help or not, our ENT advised us to give half the dose of pain medicine and give it every two hours instead of every 4. Cooper's medicine seemed to wear off at the three hour mark, I guess it helps to stay on top of the pain.

Glad he seems to be doing better, heres to no more strep and sleep apenea!
