Friday at Jellystone

We arrived at Jellystone Park in Cave City, Kentucky Friday afternoon about 3 o'clock. The thermostat on the van said the heat index was 114 degrees. Yikes! It was pretty miserably hot setting up camp. Other than that, the rest of the weekend, we found lots of ways to keep cool.
Gabriel LOVES to play Monopoly Junior.
As soon as we got the inside of the camper set up, Sam and Gabriel got their game on.
It didn't take long before the McAfee's got their inflatable pool out for the kids.
Grace and Jake were splashing in the water like a couple of little nuts.
When dinner time rolled around, it was so hot that no one wanted to fire up a grill or camp stove.  So we headed to dinner at a restaurant down the road from Jellystone.  The restaurant served a really good buffet dinner for a very reasonable price.  Score!  After dinner, we explored a junk store an antique store next door.
When we got back to camp, it was finally cool enough to enjoy some activities.  Sam and Gabriel rode their scooters, and we headed up the very steep hill.
Yes, the scooters were a bad idea.  More on that in a moment.
The kids could not wait to jump on the bouncing pillow.
Alicia and I couldn't let the kids have all the fun, so we bounced right along with them.  Fun!

*** Insert a scooter accident here as Sam and Gabriel lost control of their scooters when going down the very steep hill toward camp.  I feel lucky that I didn't actually see the accident happen because people from nearby campsites told me how scary it looked.  I saw Gabriel get up, and I saw the shock and concern on the faces of other campers.  I knew it was bad.  Sam skinned up his knees.  Gabriel skinned up both knees, one of them started to swell immediately, and he couldn't put any weight on it.  His face was skinned from temple to chin on the left side, and knot swelled up on his left temple.  His two front teeth on the top, luckily baby teeth, became loose, and the gum was purple.  Dan and I decided that being checked out at the hospital would be the best . ***
Gabriel was a tough kid at the hospital. He had a CT Scan that showed no fractures to his head.  A nurse checked his knee and decided that it was bruised, not broken.  His scrapes were checked out, cleaned, and ointment was applied.  He didn't cry or complain once.  He did try to hide under the sheet when he heard the nurse say she was going to clean his scrapes.  Ha!
We feel like he was very lucky.  He could have been hurt much worse.  I guess these kinds of accidents are just part of growing up.
